Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Consistancy of LOs poop when on solids?

My LO will be turning 6 months tomorrow, so hello 6-9 month board!

Even since my son has been eating vegies hes had farely solid poops. He deffinetly had some constipation problems a few weeks ago, but doesn't seem to have trouble going anymore for the most part. His poops are formed, but not super hard. Hes goes everyday usually, sometimes every other day. I've tried prunes, pear, peach and it doesn't seem to make it any softer. I've also tried giving him just water, but he won't drink it. I thought the poop was still supost to be softer than hes been having. Anyone else LO have formed poop? Should I be worried?

Re: Consistancy of LOs poop when on solids?

  • DS is on solids 4x a day and BFs about 8x a day- he doesn't get any water. His poop is unformed and thick like peanut butter. I'd get your doctor's opinion and see if he/she is concerned.

This exactly, however when we first started solids DD seemed to have solid poops for about 2 weeks before regulating again. She also went from 1 time a day to 3.

DS's poops were the same for the first month or 2 after starting solids. Lately they've been less formed. I don't know if its because we started with veggies and hes getting more fruits now, or because he's been sick the past 2 weeks or what, but I wasn't concerned when they were more solid.

  • Camden's poop is formed but "softer", plopable off the diaper into the toilet. On the cloth diaper board, everyone states that is "normal" once they start on enough solid food.

If the house ain't burned down and the baby's fed it was a successful day. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • My LO has been on solids for he past 3 weeks now.  His poop consistancy has changed.  It is thicker than it use to be when he was just on formula...maybe like soft peanut better type consistancy.  He seems to pass it just fine as he seems more regular now, going at least 1 time every day if not more in a day.   We started him on Squash for his 1st week and now he is on Peas.  We use the baby bullet so we make our own food.  We also only give him 2 baby bullets per day filled with solid food and the rest of the day we continue him on his formula.  I would just double check with your doctor about it if you are worried and think it might be a problem
