Need Kaiser help (updated)

Seriously still am not getting the care I need for my GD. How to I get the help I need? My Dr wants me on a akins esk diet and the nurse line people are telling me that is bad for my baby. It took them two months to get my morning number close to where it needs to be. I need help and I am so tired of having conversations about it and asking for help and not getting it. WHere do I go for help? The nurse line seems to just want to defer to my dr. Dr does not want to see me for 6 more weeks. How can this be considered good care? How do I get help?

Update: Ok so after reading all your great advise I decided it was time to stop complaining and try something new. I emailed my ob  and begged for a appointment ASAP he was out for the rest of the week so I responed with exactly what I wanted a referal to a MD who does ob/diabeties. I also called the advise nurse and the perientology nurse line again. I even called member services. I was so sad because I was not sure if any of them could help me by lunch time. About 20 minutes ago I got a call from a periantologist from Santa Clara Kaiser. She was ready to talk about getting me the meds I need and basically is going to take good care of me. OMG I am so relieved. I asked her who sent her to me and she said it was a combination of everyone i talk to. lol SHe said she could not ignore that many emails about the same patient.

Re: Need Kaiser help (updated)

  • The following is very unethical but some times I feel like it is needed to get what you want/need with Ka.iser: Can you call the nurse line and make up a reason to be seen. Tell them with the new diet your numbers are really high or your bleeding or anything to get to be seen. Then once there simply don't leave until someone has given you what test or advice you need. At 22 weeks I was being seen every 3 weeks so 6 weeks seems like a long time to me, given you are high risk with the GD. Good luck!

  • You can also 1) switch doctors.  Your primary OB is leading the charge here and you're not happy with the care, switch docs.  2) complain to member services.
  • I don't have kaiser, but I do have GD.

I'd be happy to scan and send you a copy of my diet plan. It goes over portion sizes and carb counts and what I should be aiming for for each meal. You shouldn't just be eating protein.

I see a dietician/nurse and an endocrine/diabetes dr every other week or so (alternate btwn them). My OB just asks how it's going on my regular appointments.

  • Have you tried e-mailing your OB to explain the situation and get advice?  Or you can ask the advice line to leave a message for your OBs office to call you back (they also have a direct # you can find on Kaiser's website).  I'd start there, explain what's going on and get advice.  If they aren't giving you the help you need, and you don't like your OB, I'd switch. I've known lots of people who have had good experiences with Kaiser when they had GD.  I also agree that just being on Atkins while PG doesn't sound right.

  • On Kaiser's website, it says you should be talking with a dietician.  Have you done that yet?
  • So glad for you! I hope things go much more smoothly now!

I'd still be happy to send you anything I have or talk more about anything off board if you want.
