So, baby girl is 11 months old. She nurses 2 times in the morning, 2 times during the day, and once at night. Well, I think my period has officially returned (very sad indeed). I know that my milk supply is defiantly going down. I used to be full in the mornings but not anymore. Is that normal? We have both overcome a lot of struggles as most BF moms have to make it EBF for 11 months. I can defiantly tell that she is growing out it but, my biggest concern is the child WILL NOT take any liquid from any other source other than me. I have tried it all. 4 different sippy cups, cups with straws, juices, milk, breast milk, warm, cold! I have showed her over and over how to do it. We have been working on it since 6 months! She is totally uninterested. She will play with it and chew on it but NEVER suck on it. I am so frustrated. I know we are both ready to transition (she nurses 5-10 min. and then gets frustrated and is done). My milk is drying up. I am just so concerned because she has no other way of getting liquids other than me and I know my days are number. I put a call into the nurse and am waiting to hear back from her. Any thoughts? TIA
Re: The well is running dry...
Have you tried an open (regular) cup? Messy, but my baby will drink from one if I put it up to his mouth.
If it is your period, your supply will come back up if you keep nursing.
5-10 minutes is an excellent length of time for a baby that old. She's probably getting what she needs, which is why she's done.
I don't think your milk is drying up. I don't think that spontaneously happens to mothers that are nursing regularly and don't have other stuff (prescription or OTC drug use, serious illness, etc) going on.
