Babies on the Brain

Is it ok to use a "used" nebulizer?

Ave has a bronchial infection.  The nebulizer than we had for Em is somewhere in storage.  We have no idea if we can find it.  I have a friend who offered to let me use hers.  Would you?

My SIL said that you should get new tubing or something.  If we get a brand new one we will have to pay the full price of the nebluizer since we have yet to meet our deductible for Ave for the year.

WWYD?

Re: Is it ok to use a "used" nebulizer?

  • I would want a new mask and cup (I can't remember the name of the part that holds the medicine.) but yes, I would use a used/borrowed one.
  • Loading the player...
  • I'd get new tubing/mask from a drugstore but yes, I would use it (and have used someone else's in the past when I didn't bring my own while travelling)

  • Just get a new kit and it will be fine.  The neb is just an air pump.

Yep, you have to replace the tubing every os often anyway. A used neb would be just fine.

  • Equipment companies rent them so yep..new kits are $3.00 and a new filter should be $1...No worries about a borrowed one. (this is my business, medical equipment purchase and rental)..

  • Just get some new tubing and you can borrow the nebulizer. You should replace the tubing on your own nebulizer periodically also. (Asthmatic here Wink)

  • You can wash the parts in warm soapy water, you may also be able to put them in the dishwasher, just check what it says.

Also, you may want to change the little filter.  You can share the air compressor, I only have 2 for the whole school.

  • Hi! New girl here. I work in an ER and respiratory therapy pretty much confirmed what every one else has been saying; get new tubing and a new mask and it'll be perfectly fine. GL!
