Update: So, I talked to the police...

In case anyone is interested...

Well, I talked to the lady at the front desk.  She wouldn't get me an officer (I guess maybe they get a lot of paranoid people and don't want to waste the officer's time. Who knows.)  Anyway, her first question was if I'd ever called them while he was at my home.  No.  He's not gonna stick around for that I'm pretty sure.  She then told me just to do that and they'd send an officer over to talk to him.  When I told her that I'm nervous about being out of town.  She told me that they can do extra surveillance around our house when we're gone.

I'm disappointed because I was hoping they'd give me some tips or let me know if I should be concerned but at least they're going to keep an eye out while we're gone.  We're also going to use you guys' recommendations to amp up our safety on our own.  If he does stop by, I'll have DH call while I talk to him.  He won't be in trouble at that point, they'll just talk to him.

  • can you get one of those fake barking dog bells? i don't know where to get one, but i've heard of those...

also, even though you don't have security set up at your house yet, get a sticker or a sign that says you do. can't hurt. a motion light in your front yard and/or front door area.

oh and i'm that weirdo that would talk to every neighbor on my street so they would keep their eyes open. that's what i did when the neighbor behind us got broken into.  almost none of my neighbors even knew it happened! people started paying a lot more attention after we went and talked to them.

sorry you are having to deal with this!!

  • oh and if that lady didn't take a report, i would go back when a different lady was working and try again. a different person might be more receptive. go during a different shift :)

  • That's great they can do extra surveillance around your house while you're away. And she had a good idea about calling the cops (although just curious - does she want you to call their 7-digit #, 311 or 911?) when/if the boy returns.

That was kind of my thought... I'm trying to prevent something from happening, wouldn't that make things easier than doing it after the fact?

When I return the surveillance paperwork, I'll try to talk to someone else.  Otherwise, I guess we'll just hope he decided we're not worth dealing with.
