7 week U/S question

So today was my first U/S, the tech started the U/S on the outside and said "hmm, is that two?" and changed to the "wand" and did an internal U/S.  She could only find one baby.  But then she said "It doesn't mean that there isn't two, the other one could be hiding"  SO I HAVE TO WAIT!  Who does that to someone?!!

Did anyone have a "hidden" twin in their first U/S?  This is going to drive me crazy until my next U/S in 4 weeks!

Re: 7 week U/S question

  • I got a vag u/s starting at 5 wks and you could see there were two sacs. I could see one 'hiding' on a belly u/s but not on a vag u/s.

  • When I had an u/s at 8 wks (internal), we saw one baby right from the beginning b/c one baby was hiding behind the other.  We found #2 accidentally when the tech adjusted the wand to complete measurements of #1, #2 became visible.  She then spent the next few minutes moving the wand every where to make sure that there wasn't anyone else hiding.  After that it was incredibly obvious there were two and only two.

  • When I went for my dating and viability u/s at 8w 3d the tech had to switch from an external to an internal u/s because the babies were honestly too small to be seen from an outside u/s. Once she did the transvag. u/s it was obvious there were two. While it's possible she missed one because one was "hiding", I don't think it's likely.

  • I had a vag u/s @ 6w2d and we saw both babies and hb's.

Anything's possible.  My friend had an u/s around 6-7w and she had a large yolk sac.  For a while they thought they were dealing with momo twins.  Around 9w (and with better equipment) they found out he was a singleton.
