Not sure how well DS is adjusting to preschool

I went to DSs holiday party today and I felt like I was watching a totally different kid...He's always been "high energy" but he was literally running wild around the room while the other kids sat at the tables for art time and snack. His teachers have been telling me that he's one of the wilder kids in the class but I was chalking it up to him having to get used to the class room setting etc. He never runs or screams in our house and plays really nicely with other kids and alone. But after what I saw today I'm wondering if he's not adjusting well or maybe not really ready for preschool. I'm curious what I can be doing at home to maybe better prepare him for class time.

He's been there since Sept 1. I've observed him a few times and he's always the one not doing what the rest of the kids are doing (jumping around during circle time, playing with the toys instead of doing the art project, yelling during storytime etc). His teacher are constantly telling me that they spend a large part of the time trying to reign him back with the rest of the kids. Academically (if you can call it that) he's doing great - he knows his letters and their sounds, counts to 40, knows shapes and colors, can identify words etc - but it seems like the structure part of school is still a struggle.
