I went in for another NST today and this time my baby's heartbeat was very irregular. It had been fine up until this point. Just curious if anyone else had a similar situation and what came of it after birth.
The perinatologist said that it wasn't really anything to worry about and that they usually correct themselves. I'm scheduled to be induced this Wednesday. I guess I'm just looking for a little more reassurance. I was completely caught off guard by this today!?
Re: Anyone have a baby with an irregular heartbeat before birth?
A fetal heart arrhythmia was discovered when I was 33 weeks along. I had to go in for weekly NST's and level II u/s for 3 weeks, and then it just cleared up on its on, just as they predicted. DS is now perfectly healthy with no heart issues whatsoever. I really don't think you have anything to worry about. Good luck!
My baby's heartbeat was fast at 38 weeks and I ended up having an emergency C-section. He was diagnosed with having congenital atrial flutter. He was put on medication after birth and was in the NICU for 5 days after being born. Doctors performed tests on him and found nothing wrong, structurally, with his heart. He was taken off the medication (Digoxin) last week and is wearing a 24 hour halter today - this is where they record his heartbeat for 24 hours to make sure that he is fine without the medication.
The pediatric cardiologist says that it rarely comes back after birth and like your case, self-corrects. In spite of having been born with this he is a perfectly normal baby - we will know for sure after this last test. They wanted to perform this before formally discharging him.
GL. I'm sure everything will turn out ok. The good thing is you are not having an emergency C-section and you are being carefully monitored!
