Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What is your solids feeding schedule & questions

DD is 7 months old and we started rice cereal last month.  Since then she has also eaten bananas and squash.  I have been introducing a new food every 7 days and haven't had any problems with allergies.  Should I be giving her rice cereal everyday along with a fruit or veg?  I would like to intro her to baby mum mums this week, should I count those as a new food even though they are rice?  I would like to start her on pears this week also. Should I be giving DD solid food more than once a day?  I would love to see how much other people are feeding each day.  Thanks!

  • Hannah gets 2 meals per day and is almost 7 months. Usually a fruit for breakfast and veggie for dinner. Cereal didnt agree with her. We intro a new food every 4-5 days.

  • I don't personally think you have to wait seven days to introduce a new food. I just wait one day, but I've heard people recommend 3-4 if you're worried or if there is a history of allergies in the family.

We're doing a semi-BLW thing. DS gets 2-3 solid meals a day. I usually do a puree for breakfast around 10, but I preload the spoon and let him play with it. He's getting really good at putting the food straight into his mouth... most of the time, lol! I do another meal around 1-2, or whenever he seems hungry (usually a puree too).

Around 5-6, whenever we sit down to dinner, I give DS some of what we're eating. I make sure the pieces are soft enough for him to handle safely, and he really enjoys picking up the food and figuring it out.

We haven't done rice cereal at all. I wouldn't count it as a new food if it's the same ingredient.

  • My DD is 8 months, Here is a rough idea of what our day looks like

    8 am wake - BF

    9am - fruit and cereal

    10 - BF then nap

12-2  wake from nap 3-4 (Ice) cubes of veg and 1 cube of protein

    4ish BF and then nap

5-6 wake from nap and 3-4 cubes of veg and 1 protein

    8 pm BF and bed

I will also give her mummum's, farleys and cheerios sometimes for her to practice feeding herself.

She's had a ton of different fruit and veg, and for protein she had had lentils, chicken and turkey. The next thing that we are going to try is cheese and yogurt.

  • DS is 7 months and has been on solids for a little over a month.

DS wakes up for the day at 7:00 and then goes down for a nap about 9:00, then wakes up at 10:00 which is when he gets his breakfast.
I mix a fruit in with some rice cereal for breakfast.
Then around 6:00, he gets a veggie. (sometimes mixed w/rice cereal)
(although we are trying to add some protein to his dinner)

He gets a snack in between meals (around 2:00), like: cheerios, egg yolk, toast strips w/puree, steamed cut-up veggies or something of the sort.
He sometimes eats a little of our table food from dinner since we all eat at the same time.
  • Evie's up between 6-7 am and she nurses. Then about an hour later she has breakfast, which is 2 oz of fruit mixed with oatmeal. She nurses again after she's up from her nap, then about an hour later she has lunch, which is 4 oz of fruit or fruit/veggie combo or yogurt and some finger food practice like puffs or mum mums. She nurses after her second nap, then eats dinner around 5ish, which is 4 oz of veggie and some of what we're having if it's baby friendly. I usually nurse her right before or right after dinner, depending on our day, and then she nurses before bed. We starter solids at 6 months, but Evie LOVES food, so we moved up to 3meals a day pretty quick.

  • I don't give cereal every day. It seems to make her constipated. I started out by feeding her just one solid a day at 5 months, but now we're up to 3.

  • We do 3 meals a day. Breakfast is oatmeal with a fruit. Lunch is a fruit and veg. Dinner is a fruit and veg. Working on introducing protiens. She's not fan of the texture of chicken and turkey...She has a 4 oz bottle after every meal and a "snack bottle" in between. Sips of pear juice and water after nap. Gladd you asked the question... i like to hear  what everyone else is doing...

  • We currently do 2 meals per day. She takes a bottle first thing in the morning and then about 2 hours later, she has breakfast. This consists of some type of fruit. She has liked them all so far: bananas, apples, pears & mixed with mangos as well and this morning she had a blend of apples with yogurt & oatmeal and she loved it.

Then around 6ish, she has dinner, which is usually a vegetable. She loves sweet potatoes and likes squash, peas, and green beans. Then it's bath, bottle and bed around 7-7:30.

Oh, and she hated cereal by itself so we don't do it hardly at all.

  • We're doing BLW, so he mostly eats when we eat.  He generally gets oatmeal or toast and scrambled eggs or a banana for breakfast around 9 am, some yogurt or something for lunch around 1 pm, and whatever we're having (usually a piece of meat, some veggies, and a piece of potato or spaghetti or rice) for dinner at 6 pm.
