Babies: 6 - 9 Months

anyone have this?

We're looking at the Sunshine Kids RadianXTSL Convertible Car Seat and I was hoping to get a review. Reviews online look good, but I can't find a lot. Maybe the seat is fairly new, so there aren't many?

If you have this, please let me know how it is. I'm having a really hard time choosing a convertible seat and need one ASAP!

TIA!

Re: anyone have this?

  • I actually used this brand but the next version down. I have to say I loved it, I believe at the time it had one of the best safety reviews. and they are expensive. But yes, I really liked it!!

  • We have the Radian 80SL, which I think is basically the same thing except without the headwings.  We really like it - great safety ratings, seems quite comfy, easy to install, easy to get him in and out of.  Have you tried looking on the car-seat.org forums for information?  They probably have a few threads about it.
  • They aren't new...nut sunshine kids just changed their name to Diono. You are buying one of the last of the seats left under the old name (not a bad thing!). I just thought the radian r120, which is a step below the XTSL, but under the new name (confusing much?). I opted to get the next one down bc some reviews I read said that babies didn't like the head wings bc they block their view and that the head wings can cause kids to outgrow the seat earlier. Many people elect to get the hesdwings bc of the side impact protection they seem to offer (no testing done on side impact, so no one actually knows if the wins offer any additional protection). Overall, it's a great seat that gets very high safety marks. I like that it is narrow, so three across is an option and it is tall, so great for tall babies (like my son). When installed RF, it can be angled pretty far back, but diono just introduced an angle adjuster which can be used with the sunshine kids seats as well.

  • my very good friend has that seat for her LO and she loves it. she bought it b/c you can supposedly fit 3 across the back seat. her LO is going to be 2 in March and her new baby is due the month before. (and she wants another not too long after). I was debating between getting it b/c she loves it and the britax boulevard. I had always read so many good things about the bouelvard vs knowing this one person who had the Radian, so I stuck with getting the boulevard. haven't used it yet! my friend got her Radian at Isis, based on their recommendation. so maybe it's worth a trip to Isis to talk to them about it. They don't carry very many brands, etc in the store so I think sometimes they are very selective about what they do carry for a reason.
