Gas pains

My little guy seems to get horrible gas pains after he eats or possibly be colic? He pulls up his legs and gets very cranky and will not stop crying. It is usually at night and can last from 1 hour to 5!   I have tried laying him on his belly, rubbing his legs, rocking him but he seems to be very unsettled.  It is so sad to see him like this and his cry seems to be that he is in pain.  I have heard of mylecon (sp?) drops but was told from the nurse at my pedi that he is too little to be on them.  Anyone else dealing with this issue? Any suggestions on calming my little guy?

I am currently BF and also pumping but have not been pumping enough for every feeding so we are supplementing with Similac Neosure.

TIA!!

Re: Gas pains

  • Is he constipated?  Neosure made my son REALLY constipated.  Could you maybe try mixing the Neosure with the breastmilk so he doesn't get so much of the formula all at once?  Has he been checked for reflux?  The others on here would have more ideas on reflux that I do, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

    Sorry you're dealing with this!

  • I actually mix whatever breastmilk I have with the formula.  When we first brought him home he had more dirty diapers then he does now ( maybe 1-2 a day) so I am not sure if that would be considered constipated?  We have a weight check appt on Tuesday so I will run my concerns past my pedi but I know how helpful all of your ladies on here are... Thanks!!

  • A product I got at my baby shower was a lifesaver for us.  I didn't use it at first because it is advertised for Colic, but it was AMAZING how quickly it worked every.single.time!  HappiTummi is a wrap you put around their bellies after gently heating it in the microwave.  The warmth coupled with soothing aroma calms then and helps them pass the gas at the same time.  It was the best shower gift I ever got.
  • Nothing helped my kids but switching to Nutramigen instead of Neosure.  GL!
