waking up with contractions?

Has anyone ever woken up from a nap with strong contractions? I woke up with insanely bad gas pains like when you have to make a run for the bathroom you're so sick but then they wrapped around to my belly. I never could go to the bathroom either. It just kept coming in random waves of pain for a little while but the pain was so strong. I took a shower but it didn't help much and now I'm shaking like when you have the chills from being sick. I can't tell for sure if I'm going into labor or not. Anyone else ever have this happen?

They woke me up when i went into labor with my daughter.  Are they coming regularly, meaning timable?  I would try laying down on your left side and drink some water and starting timing. If they do not stop and starting coming closer together or get more intense after an hour I would call your doctor.

Well I'm hoping this is it. TMI...I spent a couple hours in the bathroom getting emptied out (just like with my first labor) then went to lay down for a while. The contractions lightened/became more random laying down. Then I started hurting like I had to go to the bathroom and after sitting up I got sick to my stomach plus contractions again. I've had random intensity of contractions at random times so I think its still early. I've also felt him drop more and had pressure/pains along with feeling sick to my stomach. I'm hoping it doesn't all quit after a while and make me start again another day.

This sounds very similar to what I experienced at 35 weeks - turned out to be the stomach flu :S Hopefully that isn't the case for you!!

Also yes, I've had some contractions in the last two days that woke me up, but I don't think they are doing anything yet. The midwife told me to watch for intense pressure on my cervix and pains very similar to menstrual cramps, as you could have some painful contractions that aren't yet "doing anything" as the cervix isn't ready....

I've had contraction last weekend that woke me up in the middle of the night. They eventually went away but I get them now throughout the day and they are painful. Then I had more steady contractions this past Saturday coming it at every 20 minutes. It went like that for 2 hours or so... Then they went away again. I"m also wondering if that means that labor is close.... I didn't have the chills though like you describe, I just actually had the runs

Well I ended up having strong contractions for 13-14 hours and then they quit for a couple hours. Now I've been having random mild cramps/contractions and am sick to my stomach a little bit again.
