Preemies

New Here

My baby boy Colin was born on Dec 15th 2011. He was 36 weeks and 6 days. He wasnt that early but he sure is sick. They had to transfer him to Childrens hospital and he is on a vent. They are not sure why but his lungs arent working. He was breathing to hard and ended up with a hole in his lung. Then a chest tube to help with that and now a vent. Im terrified. I cant hold my baby. They let me out of the hospital today a few days early so that I could go be with him. He was an emergency c-section. Any advice would be great because I am terrified. Thank you all so much in advance.

  • My only advice is to not push yourself too much. Let yourself heal from your surgery and get some rest, so that you can be there for your little boy. My little girl was born really sick and has made huge strides in just three weeks. Babies are really resilient. Lots of thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
  • T&P for you and your little guy! I think most preemie moms know the pain of wanting to hold and comfort your LO and not being able to. Remember that the sound of your voice is very comforting. Ask if you can sleep with a stuff animal or blanket and then place it in his bed so he can smell you. Remember to rest too- he'll need his momma healed and well when he's ready for snuggles and keeping you up at night. It will likely happen faster than you can imagine! • Congrats on your LO - and we can all relate to how difficult it is to not be able to hold and comfort your baby especially when they are sick. It will get better. I agree with PP, let yourself heal - he needs you.
