Babies: 6 - 9 Months

At t point do you worry?

LO has a temp of 101.7 and looks pretty sick. His cheeks are all red. He had pink eye earlier this week which has cleared up on anibiotics. Also he has had a runny nose/slight cough all week which I told the nurse about when I calls about antibiotics and she said ur was probably just a cold and to  arch him call if his temp is over 102. At what point Do you worry? He's acting completely normal. Playing crawling around and even figured out how to walk with a toy and stand by him self today. He is teething so that might go along with the fever. I'm going to give the doctor a call in the am but I was just wondering what you guys would do? What do h think?

Re: At t point do you worry?

  • My LO was running a fever for 2 days and was really not feeling well. She was cranky, wanted to be held alot and refused to eat.

Is he responding to Tylenol? As long as he is eating and peeing ok I would not worry much.

  • Worry all the time, you are mom! haha.  When to bring LO to the doctor or hospital.  If the fever gets worse, if the baby becomes lethagic or way less active then normal. If you have less wet diapers and less intake of formula or milk. If the baby starts vomiting and can not keep fluids down, or if the baby has any issues with breathing.

Go with your gut, if the baby is not acting right, bring them in. If they are acting okay, use acetaminophen to try to lower the fever and continue to monitor for any change.

    Hope LO feels better soon.

  • We're supposed to check-in with our pedi if her fever hits 102. Last week, she had a low grade fever off and on for 3 days, but it did peak at 102, and she vomited once, so we gave our pedi a call. Went in to see him, and they did a finger prick/blood draw. They determined she had a mild viral infection, and she was completely back to normal the next day (temperature, temperment, and sleeping).

  • I'm pretty sure that you're okay to not worry too much unless the fever is over 103 and doesn't respond to Tylenol. If the fever is that high and/or it doesn't subside after 48 hours, then you go in. Most of the time it's either related to teething or it's a sign the body is fighting off whatever is ailing LO and it moves on within that time frame. You go in if it's over 103 because then it can be dangerous for LO at any length of time. Sounds like he's probably fine so just watch it and maybe try Tylenol.

  • Unless DS is not acting normal, I don't worry. (well not too much)

I was told that the behavior matters more than the temp. If he isn't eating or playing or all his normal stuff, then he needs to see the doc.
