Activity Ideas

So now that DD is awake for longer stretches I am starting to run out of things to do to entertain her. I feel bad because I feel like I set her down, and I sit in the same room with her but I will be doing other things like reading, cleaning etc. We read books, cuddle, walk around and name things, bounce in her jumpero. It's getting too cold for walks and when we go to the store I always buy something, so I avoid that also. What activities do you do?

  • we play with paper, or kind of like hide and seek is a new game he loves, or i turn music on he will sit/stand and bop along. also loves when i put a mirror down at his level then he will babble to himself for ages and i can sit and relax.

  • DS loves to crawl so that's what he spends most of his time doing.
He crawls around and plays with all his toys 90% of his awake time.

Before he was crawling, he would play in his exersaucer & johnny jump ups most of the time. We practiced sitting up and he also spent a lot of tummy time.
He loves to go on walks but it's usually too rainy or cold.

I try to include him in everything I do. If I'm cooking, I'll put him in his high chair, play with him and talk to him while I cook. If I'm cleaning, I'll put him in his Johnny Jump Up so he can jump & watch me. But like I said, 90% of the time he just wants to crawl around and play with his toys. I like to join in with him and talk to him about his toys and show him how they work.
  • Thankfully, we've got an older brother, so that in itself provides endless entertainment!

You can mall walk...if you can resist shopping!

  • There's nothing wrong with letting a baby play independently for a while. I'll usually let him roll/crawl around until he gets bored. Honestly, I don't want a kid that requires my entertainment 24/7, so I'm not setting up that expectation.

We do play peek-a-boo and patty-cake, read books (usually lying on the floor so he can wiggle), and sing songs. When I'm in the kitchen, I'll put him in the high chair with a wooden spoon and he'll beat the tray to make noise.

We try to get out most days - there are lots of free mom's groups, breastfeeding groups, library story times, etc. We also volunteer together Wink We're helping a new-to-Canada family practise English and get oriented. She has a baby, too, so they entertain each other.
