hiccups

Not to be a PW with two posts in a row but....DD has the hiccups a lot (a few times a day for a decent amount of time). I feel so bad for her because it definitely seems to make her uncomfortable and prevents her from sleeping (which sucks at night when she is otherwise a pretty good sleeper). She had them a lot in utero also, is she just a kid that is going to get the hiccups a lot or is this a sign of something else?

I've had some slight concerns about reflux (DS had reflux for a VERY long time and pretty severely) since she seems to really dislike being flat at any time, especially after eating and I can sometimes hear what sounds like refluxing (based on what DS sounded like). Wasnt sure if the two are connected? Any advice would be appreciated :-)

Re: hiccups

  • I was going to say it could be a sign of reflux. Since she seems to have other symptoms of reflux too, I would talk to the pedi about it. DD was diagnosed at 4 months and still takes Zantac for it. I really hope she'll outgrow it some day. Her symptoms were: frequent hiccups, back arching, sleeping with her back arched (she would be on her side with her back arched), raspy voice, spitting up even a few hrs after nursing, refusing to nurse, or nursing very, very frequently to try and soothe her throat.
I would talk to her pedi. In the meantime, burp her really well and keep her upright as much as possible.
