Is pumping a good indicator of hindmilk/foremilk?

I pumped the other day about an hour after feeding DD, and put it in the fridge.  I looked at it after it had cooled & separated, and it is almost ALL foremilk & hardly any hindmilk.  It was a mix of milk from both breasts, and there's like 2 oz of foremilk and less than 1/2 oz of hindmilk.

Is this an indicator that I have an imbalance?  DD doesn't have green or frothy poop, but definitely very liquid, although yellow & seedy with some stringy mucus (no blood).  She's gassy, has reflux, I'm dairy-free (have been for over 2 weeks) and she now has a yeast diaper rash (idk if that's relevant, just adding it).

  • I agree with PP, you're actually seeing the fat separating out and as explained on kellymom there is no sharp distinction between fore milk and hind milk, the fat content gradually increases. The amount of fat you're seeing actually seems like a lot! I know mine will vary throughout the day or depending on how much I'm nursing. Aren't our bodies amazing! Smile
