Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Yogurt Question

For those of you that have introduced yogurt...did you notice that LO poop was really stinky and they possibly pooped more often?  I just intro'd yogurt last week and there seemed to be a correlation between that and frequent stinky poops.  Wondering if he just needs to adjust to it or if there may be a dairy sensitivity or something (He's on formula though so ???).  I was allergic as a baby, but I had to have soy formula.  FYI DS is 8 months old.

Re: Yogurt Question

  • Yogurt does funny things to bowels. It still does to my DS but he loves it and eats it almost daily (he's 3)

I wouldn't worry.  What kind are you using?

  • Minigo (Dannon I think).  DS seems to like it too!
  • The "live active cultures" can change your LOs poos. I actually give Molls yogurt to help keep her regular and because she loves it. The cultures are pretty similar (if not the same depending on your yogurt) to OTC probiotics (which are also great for digestion).

Side note, yogurt is great to eat anytime you are on antibiotics to prevent yeast infection.  Sorry, I am a little gung ho about homeopathic/holistic treatments, and yogurt and probiotics are awesome!

  • we do yogurt a few times a week and she only gets 1/2 a container because of what you stated. I think its a sensativity b/c LO would be gassy early on when I had dairy too.

DS formula has probiotics in it already...I noticed, like you, that they help keep him regular when we switched from BM to formula

The combo may have just caused a higher dose of the probiotics, you can't OD on them but sometimes it takes a little for your body to adjust to higher doses of them. The body just expels what it doesn't use.
