Do you have Thanksgiving Day traditions?

Every morning we watch the Macy's parade and then in the afternoon we go early to my parents and then caravan to our old HS and sneak into the stadium and kick fieldgoals. We don't leave until everyone has made at least one. It's the highlight of the day.

We don't really sneak in there, they know we do it and my brother gets the keys and we go in. (He was a star QB while in HS)

Re: Do you have Thanksgiving Day traditions?

  • I think it mostly started when we were little so my mom can have us kids out of the house. We have been going for 25 years now. Ouch - that makes me feel old.

  • I am almost embarrassed to say mine ----

After we eat dinner we all sit around with our Christmas lists and write down what everyone wants/needs for Christmas....  we laugh at ourselves every year because we are suppose to be giving thanks, but hear we are saying what we want!  It does help you get what you want, not junk :)

We've been doing it since I was a kid.

I love the fact that you kick field goals - what a fun memory!

  • My grandma makes us go around the table and say what we're thankful for.  It's a nice tradition, but kind of cheesy and everyone just says the same things over and over, so last year I suggested she turn her "Easter tree" (just a cute wrought iron mini-tree she hangs Easter ornaments from) into a "thankful tree" and have everyone write what they're thankful for on a leaf.  We hung those on the tree instead of the around-the-table thing, and it was really nice to read what everyone had written (which was a lot more thoughtful/sincere than what most of us end up saying!).
  • We dont really have any traditions for Thanksgiving.

That has got to be so much fun!

  • Well I used to watch the Detroit Thanksgiving Day parade, but since they don't broadcast that around the country I have to "settle" for the Macy's parade now.  One year we actually went to the Detroit parade.  If/when we move back to MI I would like to do that with DS.  Maybe not every year but enough for him to remember it.
