PUPPPS or allergic to belly butter?

So I've been using Palmer's Belly Butter for a couple weeks now and last week I used it right after a shower and put on a pair of jeans that had the full panel.  That night I had an itchy rash.  I assumed it was the belly butter/full panel reaction.  Now I read that there's yet another lovely symptom of pregnancy you can get - PUPPPS.  It hasn't gotten any worse or spread, but it's not exactly going away quickly.

Anyone else have something similar happen?  I'm avoiding lotions and the full panel obviously, but hoping someone has a similar story so I can stop thinking this is going to be a rash I'm stuck with for another 20 weeks!  Yikes!

  • I don't remember exactly where I read it, but I remember reading a thread where loads of women had a breakout after using Palmer's Belly Butter.

I'm sorry I can't remember where it was, but I specifically remember it because it made me not want to use that product.

  • Whew!  I've stopped using it...  didn't know there was such a high incidence of it happening!  Thanks for the info!

  • If you google "Palmers belly butter rash" a bunch of other threads from birth month boards come up in the search with women who have had similar issues.

  • I don't think that sounds like puppps, I've got it all over my body, its kind of like splotches, the dr described them as eczema type patches.  They usually pop up where stretch marks occur.

To me it sounds more like an allergy where you put on the butter... but obviously I'm not an expert.....

In my opinion, that butter smelled really weird anyway.  For my puppps, and also keeping skin super moisturized to prevent stretchmarks, the dr recommended something called Vanicream.  It is unscented, with nothing additional added, and it goes on real thick.

  • Is it still itchy? I had PUPPS with DD and the itch basically never goes away. Doesn't ease up, nothing.  I scratched so badly I have scars from it!
  • I've heard of others having trouble with belly butter. I have somewhat sensitive skin and have opted to use Bio-Oil which hasn't given me any trouble yet.

Me, too! My mom sent me tons of it during my first pregnancy, so I used it, but the smell was awful. I still have an unused jar, and when I opened it, I knew there was no way in hell I could use it again. Blerg.
