Any runners out there?

Did your supply drop when you started running again after having the baby? I am afraid to start running because of this. What do you do to keep your supply up? What is your breastfeeding and running "regimen?"

Re: Any runners out there?

  • Running shouldn't affect your supply as long as you increase your calorie intake accordingly. I started running at six weeks and it had absolutely no effect on BF-ing whatsoever.

  • I have been running since 4 weeks PP and I don't think running had any impact on supply. My supply has dipped recently, but I think it is due to mastitis and not the running.

  • I've been running since 3 weeks pp with no decrease in supply.  I don't even think I've upped my calorie intake, but I do make sure that I am incredibly hydrated - moreso than ever.  In addition to the regular amounts of water I drink, I make sure I drink 16oz before and after the run and bring water with me to drink while I'm running - even if I don't feel thirsty.

  • No drop in supply here. My baby is 12 weeks and I just started training for a half marathon. My biggest problem is chafing and finding a sports bra (or two) that can contain these milk jugs!
