Babies: 6 - 9 Months

7 month old size

Yes, it's 12:30 in the morning and I should be sleeping...but instead I have a RAGING headache & now a thought...

DS just turned 7 months old and is about 16.5 lbs and 25 in.
Some people say "what a BIG boy!" and some think he's tiny for his age.
He is very healthy & the pedi does not seem worried at all.
Just curious as to how big your LO was/is around 7 months old?

Re: 7 month old size

  • Ours is just 7 months, and weighs 25 pounds. No joke. He's a big boy, but big babies run in our families. (my doc said she's seen kids over 1 year old his size, so not to worry!)

My hubby and I thought our kiddo was too big for a while....

Don't worry. There is a huge range for what is "normal". Every baby weighs exactly what he/she is supposed to weigh, as long as he/she is getting enough to eat. :)

  • At 7 months, DS was 16.8lbs and 25.25". He started out really tiny though, 4.10lbs and 16.5". He just turned 8 months this week. He is now 17.8lbs and 26.5". Our LO's are on the smaller end of the growth charts, but they are still on there! Smile

  • At her 4 month visit she was 16lbs and 25 inches Surprise.  We have her 6 month next week and are thinking she`s very close to 20lbs now and likely about 28-29 inches.

  • 6.5 months, 18lbs, 29inches

    90%+ for length and weight

I wouldn't worry- each baby is different.

  • Were not quite at 7 months yet, but DS is a beast! At 2 months he was 17lbs, at 4 he was 21lbs and at 6 he was 23.6lbs. Like PP said, I think there's a wide range of normal.

  • She is a peanut.

At 6 months she was 25 inches and 14.5 lbs.

She is crawling and rolling everywhere, so I really don't see her gaining that much weight in the month. She is still in 3-6 month clothes, however SOME brands of sleepers are starting to get too tight--so we got a couple in 6-9 month sizes.

  • Let's just say, after our 6 mo dr. appt, we went straight to Target for a new car seat because LO exceeded the 22 lb weight limit of the infant carrier!

Now that he's started crawling/pulling up/walker walking, he's lost a couple pounds and at7 mo weighs about 23 lbs

  • He's a little over 6 and a half now, and weighs almost exactly 16 lb (and 26" long), so I'm pretty sure he'll be around the same weight as your LO at 7 months.  We get the same thing - some people comment that he's a big boy, some are amazed at how little he is.  I think people just have no idea how big babies are supposed to be.

  • DD was born at 7 lbs 2 oz, and at seven months has finally doubled her birth weight at almost 15 pounds. She's very very petite, and below the 10th percentile for her age, but I was a small baby too (actually I'm a small adult still, except now I'm fat) so I'm not worried.

  • DS is 7.5 mos old, and he's about 16.5 lbs. and about 26 in.  I could have written your post myself!

Like you said, the pedi is not worried and neither am I.  He's wearing 12 mos., and growing with speed!  Looking forward to a ton of new clothes for him for the holidays by the way......... Cool

  • DD is 20 lbs and 27.5 inches at 7 months.
  • My DS, also named Hunter BTW, is 7 months old. He is EBF and weighs about 17 lb and is 26.5". People say he is a big boy too, when in reality, he is the 25% for weight and the 50% for height.

As long as your LO is staying on the same line and not losing a lot of weight or gaining too much too fast, there is no need to worry. There is definitely a wide range of normal.

  • At 6 months my baby weighed 20lbs!  I don't know how much she weighs now but I am sure she's gained a few, she is busting out of her 12mos clothes.

  • My LO at 8.5 months is just at 16 lbs and 26 inches. At 7 months he was 14.8 lbs. He's happy, healthy, and VERY mobile! :)

  • That's not that big.

My guy was 17lbs & 26"  at 6.5 months which is just under the 50%.

I wouldn't worry about it.  People like to say comments like that just as something to say. They probably have no meaning behind it.  Just like when you are pregnant and you get the "you're about to pop!" or "you're so tiny!" comments. It's usually just conversation filler.

  • Hannah was 17 lbs 4 oz at her 6 month appointment. My oldest DD was 20 lbs at 6 months. Both kids were perfectly normal and healthy. There is a huge range for babies weights.

  • My DD will be 7 months this Wednesday, she weighs 16lbs 4 oz and is about 24 in.  I hear often that she is a big girl, but I don't think so.

  • DS is about 22 lbs, size 4 diapers and 9 and 12 month clothes. Some jammies are 18 months.
  • DD turned 7m on Dec 9.

She weighted 21.5 pounds 2 weeks ago. and she is 25 inches long.

Same thing happened with DD1 and everyone said she was so big, but DD1 is now 8yo and she is skinny and average height.

So every baby is different and how they look like now may be nothing to how they will be in the future!

  • DD was 14.2 lbs and 25.5 in. She has been skinny forever. Well she was born at 7lbs 15oz, but has been  slow at gaining weight. The Dr at first thought it was my bfing her (so I stopped thinking i was starving my baby) and she didnt really gain much after switching to formula. So I just think some babies dont gain weight slower then others. But as long as the pedi isnt worried then you shouldnt be either.

  • DD at 7 months was 14 lbs 2 oz and 26 inches.  She still exclusively wears 0-3mo clothes but she is hitting all her physical milestones so I am not concerned

  • My daughter just turned 9 months on the 15th and she is 17.8lbs and 26 1/4 inches 10% percentile. Pedi said she is on the smaller size but that was fine because I'm tiny. Also, she only wears 6 month clothing and size 2 diapers, almost into a size 3. I love my little peanut!

  • As long as he's healthy, that's all that matters.  DS was 24.5 lbs and 30" at 6 months lol.
