Babies: 6 - 9 Months

WAY too much milk in freezer?

So I've been pumping since LO was born.    I pump at work and in the early morning and pump about 17 oz/day.    She takes about 10 0z a day at daycare, so I have been gradually adding and adding to my freezer collection.  I use oldest milk to send to daycare and save newer so nothing gets expired.    I currently have, no exaggerating, a chest freezer almost full of breastmilk.    I plan on weaning around a year and continuing to nurse/send BM to daycare to about a year.   So I'm only nursing 4 more months.  I don't think I can ever use all of this milk and I'm not really interested in selling it (as some have suggested).  WWYD?
But three things remain: faith, hope and love; the greatest of these is love. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker BabyFruit Ticker

  • Donate it! There are many mamas who would love to take that milk off your hands. If you don't want to go through a milk bank and go through that whole screening process, you can go through human milk for human babies on facebook and connect with a local mom.

  • Please please please donate it.  I highly recomed doing a peer to peer donation through eats on feets or human milk for human babies.  Both are found on facebook and the organizations are mearly a way for moms to meet moms for peer to peer donation.  We are on the recieving end of an ongoing milk donation it's the only way I can provide my daughter with enough bm while I'm at work since I can't pump enough when I'm at work.  Our donor has been such a blessing  to us.  Both groups have detailed information on peer donation.

  • I would recommend calling up your local hospital NICU rather than selling it or trying to find someone on Facebook. There are so many creeps out there - most of the people I ran into when I was looking to sell were old creepy men.

  • Ditto pp, donate it. I donated over 400oz a couple months ago. It was lovely having my freezer back.

  • I have amassed over a hundred ounces of breastmilk in the freezer. I use breastmilk to thin out her purees and that takes care of some of the excess milk. The rest will be used on rotation as I will keep pumping to keep things going.

  • I went thought the screening process to donate milk to the local children's hospital for the NICU babies. The screening really wasn't a big deal. Just 5 minutes worth of questions, and a blood test.

  • I've donated through Human Milk 4 Human Babies. It turns out the lady is practically my neighbor! I wish I had more milk to give her and I would if I were just better about pumping. Sigh. Anyway, it was a great experience.
