Hey ladies...
I have had to use the ready to feed formula for my Daughter since I stopped breastfeeding her at 3 months old, however the powdered formula was binding her up. So therefore, I chose to feed her the RTF only. Now that she is almost 8 months, im thinking of slowly introducing the powdered formula again probably only during our outings....my question is.....
How long do I boil the tap water to sterilize it?
How long can I store it in a rubbermaid container at room temperature?
How do u mix it to get less air bubbles?
Please advise....thank you in advance
Re: Powdered Formula
I don't boil the water, for my tap water is just fine, so I can't help you there.
Opened powder formula can be stored for a month.
I find that generic versions have less bubbles, but I also don't really worry about them. By the time DD gets to the end of the bottle the bubbles are gone.
I don't boil, I run tap through a Brita and serve it room temp.
You can store the powdered formula for a month once it's opened.
If you swirl instead of shake you get less bubble. It doesn't mix as well but it works. Or you can shake and let it sit for a few mins until the bubbles are gone.
I'm sure your tap water is fine. No need to sterilize. If you are worried though, use bottled water or a filter. We use water from the dispenser on our fridge that goes through a filter. If we are out, we use bottled water.
An opened container is good for a month. Once you mix it with water it is good for 2 hours.
If you are worried about air bubbles you can get the sensitive or gentle type. Or you can put a couple of drops of gas drops in the bottle once it's mixed up.
I boil the tap water still, and I usually let it boil until I can see the steam clearly. (I've got one of those kettles that screech when it's boiled and I find it very annoying, so I just open the spout while it boils so I don't have to hear it lol )
You can always use those bottles with the inserts, apparently those are supposed to reduce air bubbles and such. There are also special kinds of bottles that help ventilate.
As for being bound up, the only formula that DS ever took greatly was Enfamil. That formula caused no problems whatsoever, and I do believe that you can get RTF versions of it to slowly wean her onto the formula...IF you decide to try the Enfamil.
Good luck !
I use tap water, our pedi said its fine.
You can store formula in its own container, you dont have to transfer it. When out and about I put formula in this munchin container that has three stroage spaces, so you can premeasure the formula. It is AWESOME! Way better than trying to scoop while out and about.
I buy gas medicine at walmart and will usually put 2-3 drops in and it eats all the foam (i buy costco brand formula which can be kinda foamy)
