I'm not active on this board, but I'm having an issue with DD and thought you ladies might have some input.
DD has been constipated for a few days, and I'm trying to help her out. When I called the pedi's office, they suggested giving her 4 ounces of white grape juice. It seemed like a simple solution, so I put some juice in a bottle expecting all of our problems to be solved. I didn't count on DD not liking the juice. She makes an awful face and won't even swallow the little bit that gets in her mouth. Go figure!
Does anyone know how I can get the juice in her? The pedi said not to dillute it, and the office is closed now. Also, does anyone have any other suggestions for helping her poop? We've been rubbing her belly and doing bicycles, but she just strains and nothing comes out. Thanks so much for any input!
Re: Question from a lurker re:constipation
I know it's way late, but I just wanted to update. We had to go out of town, and as of Saturday night, DD still hadn't pooped. She started pushing really hard and got absolutely hysterical. We ended up taking her to the ER, and they had to manually remove the poop. It was terrible! I have never seen DD so upset. She slept really well after that, though. We had to follow up with several days of prune juice, but now almost a week later she's back to normal. I definitely learned my lesson and will be more proactive next time this happens.
Coincidentally, a few days ago her first two teeth popped out. I have heard of having diarrhea while teething. Is constipation common, too? It's probably completely unrelated, but it makes me wonder. Anyway, thanks for all the input, and I will keep prune juice in my house from now on!
