Hi! I am normally a Pampers user, but I was given a 3 pack of BG 4.0s so I decided to try them out. I have only used them once, but so far I'm happy with them.
Here are my questions: All three were just pee diapers, do I still have to wash them cold and then hot? Can I wash the inserts and covers together? I only have 3, so to wash the inserts and covers separate would be a pain. Also, I've read that most people like to have a variety of brands and kinds of diapers. Why? If something works, shouldn't you stick with that? TIA!
Re: Intro with Questions
Hi! Welcome to the CD forum
As far as washing, you could potentially skip the cold rinse step, but you might as well get in the habit of doing the cold rinse then the hot wash...just my advice! BUT yes, you can very easily wash the covers and inserts at the same time.
As for having a variety of brands...I can't say for sure. I know some people like to sample different "Work At Home Mom" (WAHM) brands, but personally, we keep to 3 things- Prefolds, FuzziBunz, and BumGenius. I use PF when I'm home, we use FB when we go out during the day, and try to limit the BG to night-time diapers so they don't wear out too quickly.
That being said, we've been using the same batch of BG since July of last year, and they are still holding strong.

Hi and welcome.
I would still wash in a hot wash/cold rinse cycle, with a rinse on either end. It's the recommended washing routine to make sure you don't have buildup of anything, even if it's just pee
You can absolutely wash everything together. I'd pull the inserts out, but I wouldn't put them in separate wash cycles.
We typically recommend a variety for a couple of reasons: 1) if you get a stash before you have a child to try them out on, you may find that the particular type/brand doesn't work once your LO arrives; 2) people use different diapers for different uses (eg, pockets for day, fitteds for night/naps) so it's nice to have that flexibility; 3) your needs or your LO's shape may change as time goes on, so your former favorites may not be your favorites any more; and 4) there's always something new coming out, and sometimes it's just fun to try something new.
If you really like your BG4.0s, they're very popular and there's nothing wrong with making them all or a bulk of your stash. You can always buy some used to save $.
GL!
I agree with what other posters said about the wash routine.
If you like the BG's, stick with them. But CDing is really addicting, so....good luck with that!
Ditto what everyone has already mentioned about the wash routine.
If the BG's are working for you and you like them, then go with it. 95% of my stash is made of these, I think they are great diapers too. I do have a couple other types of pocket diapers as well that I bought later on to try something new as well that I like for different reasons than the BG's.
