My husband and I are expecting our first, a girl, in April. I have always wanted to name my daughter Mary after my maternal grandmother, but DH hates the name and will only agree to using it as a MN. The problem is, Mary seems like an awkward MN and I haven't found any FN that "go" with Mary. Any ideas?
Re: Name Advice
This could be why Marie is used more often instead.

Lauren Mary
Evelyn Mary

My name is Mary Rose. Just a heads up that it never felt right growing up as the only other people with the name were super old. It's not that I dislike my name, but I always felt awkward introducing myself.
I come from a catholic family, and every girl (I have 3 sisters) had to have a form of Mary in their name. All of my sisters have Marie as a middle name. I'm the odd one out.
Maybe you could consider Mary names, like Maribelle, Marilyn or Maria?
My favorite Mary substitute is Mariel.
But ultimately, if you feel strongly about honoring grandma with her precise name, I think meaning trumps flow. I agree it is hard to pair.
My mom's family was like this. And actually I went to HS with a lot of girls named Mary (Catholic HS). My favorite Mary alternative is Maureen.
