Safe way to paint with baby?

I was thinking of having my 8 month old "paint" a picture for his daddy for his b-day... Are there any safe paints or edible ways to paint with food coloring or something? I have no clue whatto give my husband from baby... Thanks!

    I went to a baby picaso class and we painted with water/koolaid, pudding, applesauce, etc.

    The applesauce didnt really show up, but the other stuff was o.k.

    I forget the paint...non acrylic? if you go to Michael's and ask they can help.  Just have a wipe ready at all times b/c it can get messy.  With food, we used pudding, actual baby food-carrots or peas-dark foods work best!  GL!
