Hi everyone, I am feeling very alone as I fell recently at work and got a 2nd degree concussion(16th of October), and ever since have felt very dizzy, foggy-minded, and unstable if I am on my feet for long. Has anyone experienced this during pregnancy without getting hurt? I am worried that my concussion may have caused long-term effects! I have a doctors appointment tommorow but I have already missed almost 2 weeks of work. Anyone who has experienced anything like I am might make me more at ease! Thanks!!!
Re: 5 weeks pregnant, fell at work and had a concussion
I'm sorry that happened to you, it's really scary. I had the same thing happen to me at work. I was about 9.5 weeks and was with a patient (I'm a nurse) and got really hot and dizzy. I totally knew what was coming, but I didn't want to lay down or faint in the room with the patient, so I excused myself, started down the hallway to go lay down in another room. I made it about ten steps before passing out. As best I can guess, I hit my face on an open door and possibly on the floor. I had black eyes for about three weeks, cuts on my forehead and now a dent in my nose. Has it ever happened to you before?
I declined going to the ER b/c my dh was deployed and work didn't know I was pg. Called my peri the next day and they had me come in for an ultrasound, everything was fine. He was concerned though, b/c he said that while fainting can be common in preg, I was too early to be experiencing the big hemodynamic changes that would cause it. He ended up referring me to a cardiologist to make sure everything is good there. I'm still experiencing headaches (a month later) but don't really feel dizzy or foggy. I would bring it up to your doctor again tomorrow. Also, make sure you are not dehydrated and have something with some sugar on you in case it is sugar related, if you get that dizzy feeling again, definitely lay down, no matter where you are. I hope you start feeling better soon, I feel your pain!
Hi again. My doctors appointment was supposed to be mostly about my head, and a bit about the pregnancy. 5 minutes before I got there the office phoned and tried to cancel on me, and it takes me an hour to drive there from home! At the appointment, the doctor didn't seem to care at all about my head, kept saying "you're fine" and proceeded with a first prenatal appointment. I insisted that it was important I have it documented for WCB purposes (workers compensation board- as it happened at work and I am now broke!) and he said I would get better, he didn't have time to discuss it (it was now closing time) and he rushed out of the office!!!
My family doctor isn't available until Nov 14th but I booked for then anyways. NOW my employer has laid me off as they don't know when I will get better(they also tried to lie to WCB). A very nice WCB lady phoned me today and said that many things my employer said were not valid- except for one- I need medical proof.
Obviously, i've been trying to! Also, she said the hospital was already contacted and they didn't bother to record my initial visit enough for them to use as proof. She makes it sound like I am on a deadline to provide proof or my claim will be invalid! I HATE IT when absolutely NO ONE seems to be on your side when you need a professionals help. Everyone wish me luck!
