Solids and no high chair?

I was wondering how your LO will eat solids when there isn't a high chair present.

We are going to my husband's family for Christmas Eve at about 1 o'clock--and usually she has at least one solid meal, maybe two between 1pm and bedtime. They don't have a high chair and I am not bringing mine. Should I just skip the solids that day? Feed her a little on my lap. She LOVES purees and well, I would love to try to keep her as close to schedule as possible that day.

Feeding J out of his chair would never work...he doesn't sit up well enough yet. If your LO sits pretty well I bet you'd be able to get a few spoonfuls in.

My DD will eat solids with one of us holding, one feeding.  All three of us end up wearing puree

Does she sit on her own yet?

I had to feed her at a friends house and I just let her sit up in her car seat. I propped the diaper bag behind it so it was more of a sitting position.

It was easier than trying to support her on my lap and if she threw herself backwards she'd be ok. 

Otherwise, maybe a Bumbo?

also.. we have the first years on the go booster seat which is GREAT to have for those types of situations. You can find it on amazon.

She can sit up but still needs support. She refuses to really sit--she crawls but won't stay still long enough to sit.  

 

I think I may end up with the car seat route.

We have yet to assemble our high chair (I know, I know) so poor DD has eaten in her Bumbo, in her on-the-go booster seat and (her personal favorite) with me holding her. Don't skip the solids -- it's easy enough to get creative. In restaurants I feed her right in her car seat and it works fine (other than crumbs ...)

i have a bouncer and also try some pillows prop them up my little one wont eat in the high chair we have she doesnt sit well in it so the food falls out of her mouth

I've never had a problem feeding LO solids on my lap, even before she could sit up well. I will put her on my left leg, lean her back against my left arm and sort of keep her head steady between my arm and boob, hold the plate or jar in my left hand, and spoon with my right. It works well -- just takes a little practice. Now that she reaches for the food, though, I also have to pin her arms.

The carseat is a good option, as is having someone hold her in their lap. You'll be with family, so I'm sure there will be one or two people willing to sit with her in their lap while you do the feeding. That was what we did at Thanksgiving, DH or one of his relatives held LO and I fed him. LO thought it was a great time, and we actually didn't make too big of a mess at all. :-)

try a my little seat from mylittleseat.com .... we have one and they are great. you may be able to find one a store near you instead of online so you can have it faster.

THIS! We bought a highchair and then this was recommended to us after. We love it so much that we are storing the highchair until DS is older. We also travel with it all of the time.

Personally, I would go with the Bumbo chair. I have used it several times since its very easy to clean and it won't be as messy as if you try to feed her in your lap.
