What to do with pasta?

I want to introduce whole wheat pasta to my child, but not sure how to go about doing that. Any suggestions?

  • Just plain boiled pasta is a good place to start - pick a shape that's easy to grab like a spiral and just offer it as a finger food. My baby seems to like it.

  • We did rotini and she loved it. They were big enough to grab and she fed herself. It did have a tiny bit of tomato sauce as well.

  • I've done the really tiny noodles- ditalini. I just mix them with vegis and yogurt and feed them on a spoon.

I did penne rigate  and DS loved it, it got shredded because of the ridges on the sides.  I thought ditalini would be too small and the shape would be hard to eat, how did it work out?
We've done ditalini and he did great with it. I cook it so that it gets a bit sticky and he picks up clumps, but can also get individual pieces to work on fine motor skills.

  • I was wondering the same thing. I feel like it's too early to introduce pasta sauce (I worry about the acidity in the tomato), so you are just doing plain pasta? Can't remember what I did with DD, but I am also waiting on introducing dairy so I guess plain is my only option ...

  • i did regular spaghetti and elbow mac.... the spaghetti she "gummed" while holding. she never let it go and the elbow she shoved in her mouth...it was all just plain with a smidge of applesauce to get rid of the tacky.... this was a discovery on accicent. it all blened together on her tray
