Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Temper Tantrums??

Since DS has turned 6 months old, he's started having these fits that I don't know what to call other than a temper tantrum.
He gets angry and starts screaming, hitting & kicking me.

This happens when I change his diaper, when I put his clothes on, when I give him medicine; anything that he doesn't want/like to do, he gets seriously PISSED.

Is this normal? Even though I know it probably is, I simply never hear anyone talk about fits like this.
And what should I do? He's so young, I really don't know how to handle it.
Right now, I just let him go crazy and try to hurry & finish what I need to do.

I've tried my hardest to distract him but once he's in this fit, he doesn't get out of it until I'm done doing what I'm doing. Help please!!!!

Re: Temper Tantrums??

  • I could have wrote this word for word. DS does the same thing..and now his new thing he is tightens up/straightens up  his entire body when he doesn't wanna be put somewhere (pack n play, floor, exersauser etc). In fact DH just called me a few mins ago and said he was screaming and crying so bad before and after his bottle (DH thinks we should up his 3pm "snack bottle') but honestly he's been having fits of rage lately I can't honestly say he's hungry.  The only thing I can attribute to is teething because he has one, and I think another one is coming thru.

I'd like to hear other comments because it does wear ya down!

DS was doing the same thing! Except now, when he doesn't want to be put down somewhere he starts screaming and flailing his arms & legs all around. It's insane!

I thought it was teething as well, but after a few weeks, I'm starting to doubt it. It happens multiple times a day now.
(Although I DO think it is worse & happens more often when he's teething)

I know a lot of people won't understand. It's truly not a sad, upset, wanting-something cry...It's a very angry, screaming tantrum.

And you can only imagine what a poopy diaper change looks like....He is now turning & flailing so much, he gets it EVERYWHERE.
  • DD has little temper tantrums too.  DH got scared last week because she got so pissed while he was holding her, she actually growled at him!  just like your LO's, she straightens/stiffens her body when she doesn't want to be in her bumbo, jumper, highchair anymore.   diaper changes and getting dressed have become challenging.  i hope this is just a phase!!

  • I'm dealing with this too. For our babies being soo young still they have HUGE personalities and know what the want/don't want! This to shall pass. Hopefully!
