What to do once LO starts solids?

hey everyone!

I know that while LO is EBF that I can just toss the dirty dipe into the wetbag when I'm home and when I'm out and about. I plan to get a diaper sprayer before he starts solids so that I can spray off the poop when I'm home. But once he starts solids, what do you when LO poops and you're not home? Do you just throw the diaper in the bag, poo and all (that seems incredibly disgusting.) Thanks!

Re: What to do once LO starts solids?

  • Why is it disgusting? It's contained in a wetbag. Either flush the poop while you're out, or just close the diaper up and dump the poop and spray the diaper at home.

Carrying around solid poops just seems so gross to me. But, then again I was picturing taking the prefold out and just having loose balls of poo floating around the wetbag lol. I'll just stick to using pockets and AI2s when we go out (once he starts solids anyway.)

But does closing up the diaper actually contain the poop?

  • Roll up the diaper, and put it in the wet bag. I only use pockets when we're out and about. When LO started solids, her poop was the same for a while. Once the consistency changed to peanut butter, I scraped it off with a plastic knife or with toilet paper and flushed it. The diaper then went into the pail. I only had to scrape for 3 weeks until her poo became ploppable. She has been pooping on the toilet since she was 6 mos, so we don't have many poopy diapers to change anymore.

My LO is 6 months. How did you get your LO to start pooping on the potty at that age? I would love to know.  Last night I put DD on the potty before her bath and I think she thought I was a little crazy.

elimination communication/early start potty training. people who do this start as early as birth and many LOs do all their pooping on the toilet at about 4 months! It's so cool. DS doesn't raelly have the hang of it yet, but I admit I was bad about being consistent because we seemed to never be at home when he was pooping!

  • Honestly, yes. I either flush it when we are out or just roll it all up in the wetbag and spray it down when we get home. I wash the wetbag just like I do diapers, so it's not any grosser than what I do at home, IMO.
  • You could use flushable liners when you know you are going out if you don't want to carry around a poopy diaper in your wet bag. I do use them (if I remember) when I'm not at home and for babysitters.
