Can you rec a lunch spot?

We have our 3D/4D u/s today and want to go to lunch afterward.  I want something that's not a chain, fairly inexpensive and has some healthy options.  (Sorry, I'm being picky.)  If it doesn't fit these, we'll still consider it though.

The u/s place is at Mopac and Northland.  I just don't know that area at all so I thought someone might have a recommendation.  We'd be willing to drive a fair distance, too since we aren't normally in this part of town.  We live in Hutto so we take any opportunity we get to try new places since we don't have many options around here.

So, whatcha got? Thanks!

  • We love Mandola's and Galaxy Cafe that are at the Triangle (about a 5-10 min drive).

  • I know Taco Deli is technically a chain, but its good. There is one on Lamar across from Central Market and one at Burnet/Mopac.

We also love lunch at San Francisco Bakery & Cafe. Its on Anderson right next to the Alamo Drafthouse Villiage (behind CVS). They have amazing soups, salads and sandwiches. All of their sandwiches come with these amazingly delicious marinated carrots.  DH. swears by the California BLT and I like anything on their sourdough.

  • I love Blue Dahlia, but I don't know if that's in the area you'll be in.  And it's also not really a "guy" place, but it's yummy.
  • I was going to say Chez Zee as well.

    Yay for a 3D/4D u/s!!

  • you are in our hood! :-) Chez zee is right there.  If you head down Northland to burnet turn right there is Blue Star Cafeteria-- fancy cafe fare.  Or you could eat at Upper Crust-- soups and sandwiches cheaper than blue star... just down burnet a little more.  Or San Francisco bakery is also awesome.  Anything in the triangle is good too-- we particularly love Sago-- interior mexican.  Or finally Houstons on Anderson and Burnet-- wide variety and always declicious-- great salads and you have scored if they serve Tortilla soup today.

Ooh, I love San Francisco bakery too.

Isn't Houston's closed? I haven't been to the place that replaced it yet.

  • Thanks!  I knew I could count on you guys.

The people that owned Houston's sold the name, then bought the restaurant back,  new name same stuff.

Yep, the new name is Bartlett's, and the salads are still delicious.  Cover 3 also has really good salads - also on Anderson.

If you're in the mood for good pizza/pasta/salad - there's a Craigo's across the street from Chez Zee.  If the weather was nicer, I'd also recommend Little Deli, in the Crestview neighborhood.  There's not a lot of indoor seating though - most of it is outdoor in the Crestview shopping center.  https://littledeliandpizza.com/

  • Oh, and Phoenicia Grocery on Burnet has amazing shawarma and gyro. LOVE them. You can order at the counter and there is a small dining room across the store behind the bakery counter. Cheap, fast and healthy!
