3rd Trimester

When did you start feeling uncomfortable?

I'm not quite in my 3rd Tri yet but I wanted to hear your experiences.  I have had a relatively easy pregnancy.  No MS, not tiered, etc so I really shouldn't complain.  However, over the past week I have grown tremendously and I am finding it harder to breath, climb stairs, and sleep.  I'm sure this is normal but I thought it would hit later on.  I have three more months to go and I feel like a blimp.  What's going to happen in Feb??? So my concern is that my LO is either really big (haven't had an U/S since week 19) or there is something else wrong and I plan to talk ask my OB next week.  But in the meantime, I was wondering if some of you ladies could share your experiences with growing more uncomfortable.  When did it start for you if it did at all?  TIA!!!

Re: When did you start feeling uncomfortable?

  •  This is normal.  Your LO is not too big, nor is there anything wrong.   Welcome to the 3rd trimester.  There is a reason that everyone always talks about the 2nd trimester being the easiest.

I find that some days I still feel pretty good and others not so much.  It comes in waves.  I also find that the more rest I get the better I feel.

  • Everything you're describing, out of breath, sleep issues, climbing stairs is completely normal.  Wait another month and you'll wonder what you were complaining about at this point! :)  I'm sure there's nothing wrong.  There is a baby growing in you and taking up space, pushing on your lungs, you have increased blood volume which makes your heart work harder...it's everything that's supposed to be happening.  It will be over soon!

  • I definitely knew when I hit the 3rd tri b/c it was like someone flipped the switch! Like PP said, the more I rest, the easier it is. It's worse at night though. Maybe because my body's tired and she's doing gymnastics in my tummy.

This.... and on my not great days (seems like I have more of them now), it's hard to eat and I have this constant tight stretching feeling and laying down on my side is the only way I can get a little comfort.... Only 3 weeks left!! I sure hope I don't go over my DD!

  • Right around last week is when I started feeling different. Like half the time (especially in the mornings) I still feel great, but by the end of the day I'm dragging now. I've been really high energy this whole pregnancy so it's a definite change and I don't think the fact that it gets dark at 4pm is helping either.

I'm also starting to feel more physically uncomfortable too and having trouble breathing at times, but I figure it's just everything getting crammed up into my lungs. I try not to dwell on it or complain about it because I know it's just going to get 100x worse. All I know is that by the time I'm full-term, I will be very ready to get her out of there. :)

  • I am exactly like you.  I felt fabulous through the first and second tri...no m/s, great energy level, feeling pretty normal.  But then I hit 3rd tri and I feel like a blimp, have a hard time going up one flight of stairs to my office, have horrible hip pain, and don't sleep well at all.  I'm just being thankful I only have 12 weeks of feeling crappy since I felt great early on :)

  • Due tomorrow and other than having a hard time getting comfortable while sleeping... I feel perfectly fine! Still working and everything!

  • My general comfort issues that you are listing started around 27 weeks.  Now, I can't even get into bed without being out of breath...mostly because it takes so much for me to get comfortable...pillow between the legs, wedge pillow under my belly, head pillows lined up perfectly, and laying on my side (very difficult...lol).

  • Overall I have been very lucky and have had a very easy pregnancy. In fact I didnt really start to "feel pregnant" until 35 weeks.  My body has been basically making me slow down, which I fought a little at first, but have now surrendered to.

Its kind of nice having an excuse to be a little lazy, and even have my DH encourage it!

  • I had a really easy and symptom free first and second tri. When I hit third tri I felt myself start to slow down as I got bigger. I remember thinking I was huge at 20 weeks with my bump and now I'd be happy to be that size again.

Around 34 weeks is when it started getting painful and not just uncomfortable. My legs and hips hurt, I have trouble getting up, my back is killing me. My yoga ball really helps with back pain. Almost there!

  • This is me exactly - it's like something clicked over this past week and now I feel so huge and stretched out! I'm hungry, but there is no room for food - and breathing is hard. Falling asleep is hard too - but I bought a Boppy wedge pillow on Amazon and it's helped me in the sleeping department a lot. I wedge it under the bump so it's not just heavy and hanging there - plus the body pillow between the knees and ankles. I also love my maternity support belt that i got for walking on the treadmill, but now I wear it any time I'm out walking a lot like to get groceries. I may need to get another kind for sleeping soon-

I just told DH last night that I do not know how I am going to keep getting bigger. I put lotion on every night to help with the itching - this last stretch is going to be hard. I mean - will I even fit behind a steering wheel by the end?

Alex has arrived! 9 pounds, 21 inches - 3 weeks early on March 2nd ~went natural - very intense. whew!~
