Babies: 6 - 9 Months

stupid ? for those who bedshare.

DS has been sleeping like sh*t for a while now. I'm at the point where I'll do what it takes for some sleep. My question is, where do you put LO? In the middle? On you? Yesterday I brought him in bed with us and he slept on me and slept in an extra hour, so its looking like that's what he wants/needs right now. I'm just kind of nervous about having him in our bed.

Re: stupid ? for those who bedshare.

  • DD sleeps on me on the couch, But honestly if i could take back time i would. Yes she sleeps a extra hour between wakings she's still waking up about 3 times, Since she is older now she will not sleep anywhere for longer than 30mins-1hr other than on me. I tried getting her to sleep in her crib the first half of the night but she wakes up very quickly. I do love snuggling and i do like a bit extra sleep but its not that much. My back kills (shes 22lbs) Ofcourse i have enjoyed it otherwise but in the past few weeks as shes getting older it is hell. I personally wouldnt be in the bed with DH but im just paranoid like that and rolling etc, I wake up really easy pretty much to a drop of a pin so sleeping together is easy for me. ANyways just thought id share! HTH

  • Thanks, I was thinking that I don't want to create a bad habit, but he sleeps fine in his crib from 730- midnight or so. After that's its up every hour. Some nights he does better, but its rare. I'm just not sure what else I can do at this point, I've tried all I can think of. :(

  • There are some precautions you should take for safe bedsharing :) LO should be on your side, not in the middle. No blankets, and you should really put up a bed rail so they don't roll off. GL :)
  • We have had the same problem since about 6 months. I am in nursing school and I decided that I'll deal with her sleeping with us if it means that I can get sleep at night. Her crib is in our room so I slide it against our bed and I sleep in the middle because I'm scared my husband will roll over on her. It has worked great for us except I think we need a bigger bed lol.

  • DS sleeps in bed with us. I turn my pillow so it's vertical and won't be near his face and only pull the covers up to my waist and keep him higher up, closer to my chest and face. DH is a super light sleeper so I don't have to worry about him rolling over on the baby. We've slept with the cats on our bed for 10 years (not now though w/LO in our bed...they stay away!) and they sleep on top of him and he never moves...it's kind of insane actually. I would go nuts, I need to be able to shift positions at night.
