Postpartum sex

So we DTD- or tried to- for the first time recently at 8 weeks postpartum. For some reason, I figured it would be a walk in the park since I didn't have a vaginal birth. NOT the case. It was horribly painful, even with tons of lube and going slow. And it didn't get better at all (unlike when it's just been awhile since you've been intimate)

How many times did it take for you to find sex enjoyable again? I don't even want to try after the terrible first attempt!! I am breastfeeding which I hear contributes also. Tell me it gets better-- and before weaning.....?  I hope.

  • I'm going to be honest, but it's a real bummer of an answer.  I'm STILL having pain with intercourse due to breastfeeding/dryness.  It doesn't really matter what lube or how much lube we use.  It hurts.  It is getting better though.  I guess it's just your body's way of reminding you that you don't need to be pregnant again anytime soon. :)

  • For me, after we had DD, it took about 6 months for my body to "loosen up" and for sex to feel good again.

  • I thought it would be no big deal too. Wow, was I wrong! The first time was SO painful! But after that it got better.

  • It took until DD was about 4 or 6 months old for sex to feel awesome again.  I know that is probably not the answer you were hoping for!  When she turned 1 I noticed that sex felt like it did before she was born.  BF really makes for crappy sex, you may ask your doc, I've heard some women get a special cream from their doc.  GL!
  • It was painful for six months. I am just now starting to enjoy sex again, at 9 months pp. Sorry I can't give you better news...but I don't think my situation is typical, either. I am also BFing.

  • I felt much better at around 12 weeks, but I didn't start enjoying it until a few weeks after that.

  • I didn't enjoy sex until 8 months PP. Then it was like a light clicked on and it was all good again. I do think a lot of it had to do with BFing.
