When I was on this board and 3T, I used to tell those people to go post on PAIF or PG>35.  Now I realize, I hate them over there too.  I totally wanted to snark, but the board hasn't historically been all that snarky, so I try to contain myself.   But it's really hard sometimes!

Try to keep the bitterness at bay, geesh

ETA: and she posted on the pregnancy board, NOT here.  so why march over there and burn her at the stake??

    Dear CousinVicki,

On the one hand, you are right, and perhaps I over-reacted; for what it is worth, I have deleted/changed what I posted to something much more neutral, given that I take your point--it's not (yet) my board to post on.  On the other hand: I posted what I first did in part because the OP has posted all of 2 times on thebump, period.  She is not an established member of the community in which she chose to post (or any other), and she was posting a message that will be read by many women who have only graduated to that board after many years and a lot of heartbreak -- as several of them who posted before me effectively pointed out.  It may have been unintentional, but despite what she said about not posting to try to make anyone feel bad, it was indeed being insensitive to many of them who have gone to a lot of trouble and expense to achieve what she was crowing about in the very title of her post (and clearly, she knew that she could well be making someone feel bad, or she would not have mentioned the possibility in the post itself).  Again, had she been a member of ANY bump board before coming on to write her post, or had she introduced herself in any other way than, effectively, "I was told it would be hard, but look at me!" I would have refrained.  But she was perpetrating what is often colloquially known as a "drive by" -- the very tone of her post title amounted to as much.  You will, I hope, have noticed that I congratulated her, and for what it is worth I meant it sincerely, even if you didn't choose to read my words that way.  I also did NOT tell her not to be happy about her pregnancy; that is very much a misinterpretation of what I wrote.  Rather, I offered her a word of caution (which is exactly what I called it) that I very much wish someone had offered me when I was trumpeting my first pregnancy to the skies.  Yes, I do want people to be happy for me when I finally get a BFP.  But I also want to be sensitive to the struggles that others around me may have gone through.  That does not appear to truly have been the case with the OP we are referring to (and why was she offering "hope" to women who are in fact already pregnant over 35? something strikes me as a little fishy there, I'm afraid).

  • If I were to respond to the PG35+ post, I don't know that I could do a better job than some of our graduates, but this is what it would look like:

propaganda:  the systematic dissemination of information in a biased or misleading way to promote a political cause or view

Surprise!  I was just kidding this whole time -- it's totally easy for someone 35+ to get pregnant!  Okay, got to go...all these naturally conceived kiddos of mine want my attention, so I guess I'll get off the bump now that the jig is up.  I can finally end my propaganda campaign!

PS:  I want you to know that I will be overjoyed when you ladies get your BFPs and your take-home babies!!!  Good luck and hugs to us all!

  • Frankly, I am not so sure how not to be bitter somedays. You keep trucking down the TTC road to find out that your body and age are all working against you. And then you have people that show up pregnant after only a couple of months (I am referring to a person IRL). So yeah, I get where the bitterness comes from and I would be suprised that anyone who goes through IF doesn't feel it at one time or another and feel the need to commiserate with understanding friends.

  • One other pet peeve of mine and I'm glad I didn't see this today... What we did different this month:  Insert how many times they BD'd, stood on their head after sex, ate pineapple core, drank pomegranate juice, etc, etc.

Like, here is the key to solving your infertility. It's all right here, between my thighs and in my womb. Learn from me.

Ok, rant over and yes, I know I sound bitter, but I think FP is about to walk through the door, my beta is early in the morning, I'm prepared for a BFN and I'm over all of this right now.

    SIGGY WARNING

I just want to let you all know that I (very immaturely) wanted to e-claw her eyes out.  I refrained. But I would have ripped a hole in time and space had it been posted here.

Still praying for you all, as always.

(And can I add the "let's be nice" BS always seems to come from the newbs.  Ever notice that?)

i will say this as a newb: I saw someone get attacked on a board before my first post. Took me another couple of weeks before I decided to join in the conversation.

While I don't think we will all be the best of friends, joining hands to sing We Are the World, it never ceases to amaze me how nasty people can get online when they would never be that way in person.  So maybe it's not, "be nice," but "be consistent."

Us: 39(me)/41(he). TTC since April '11. DOR/MFI. March '12: surgery to remove fibroids, cysts, and endometriosis.
    IVF #1: 9/13/12. ER: 9/25. 3R, 2M, 1F. ET: 9/28 (1-6B). Beta: moved from 10/11 to 10/10: BFN.
IVF #2: 11/12 cycle postponed due to Sandy and then cancelled due to elevated E2.
IVF #2.1 cancelled due to cyst.
IVF #2.2: 2/2/13. Converted to IUI. BFN
IVF #3.0: 3/2014. BCP & Microdose Lupron.  Cycle cancelled due to poor response.
    IVF #4.0: 2/2015. EPP @ new RE. ER: 3/8. 3R, 3M, 1F. ET: 3/11 (1-8cell). 3/23 Beta: 16.9. 3/25 Beta: 71.6. 3/27 Beta: 300. 3/29 Beta: 800 3/31 Beta: 1816. 4/1 Beta: 4342. m/c at 6w2d. Goodbye little one. I loved you already.

    LOL!

I was up to my ears at work yesterday so I missed most of the fun. I did, however read the post in question and it made my stomach turn. I'm glad someone called her out over here, and it felt good to know that others had the same reaction.

Long before I entered the world of fertility treatments, I got pregnant and had a baby without any "help." Even back then, I had enough friends who struggled with infertility, miscarriage and other fertility-related heartbreak that I would NEVER shout from the rooftops about my success. I have to wonder how someone has lived 35 years and not acquired some sensitivity around these issues.
