Another poop question

DD's been constipated for a couple weeks now. We've been giving her apple juice along with prunes and mangos for a week with no luck. Every she'd poop what I call rabbit pellets. Just like 5 or so little nuggets, per day.

It finally dawned on me last night that these issues started when we switched back from Up&Up to Similac. This afternoon I gave her a bottle of CVS store brand and within hours she took a giant crap.

So my question is - was she really constipated this whole time? OR, does her body just absorb the Similac better? Does it matter how much she's absorbing?

I know this is kind of a silly question since we'll be moving to WCM soon anyways, but I was just wondering.

Re: Another poop question

  • I noticed this with my DD too. I used to give her Enfamil and since we switched her to Up&Up her poops are much more consistant. I have also noticed that when she gets more solid food her poops are less "rabbit pellet" like and more soft. But she still is not pooping everyday, more like every other.

  • I don't know about your main question, but doesn't apple juice cause constipation? (I thought my ped told me to avoid AJ if she's constipated - but maybe she said apples and juice is different.)

Apples cause it, apple juice helps it. Very confusing. I accidentally gave her apples first before realizing my mistake.

Sorry I don't know how to answer your question. Just wanted to say I hope she more regular on this formula!

Also I only had one instance when we started solids with A that he was constipated but it was bad. He was so uncomfortable. I gave him a suppository and I would never hesitate to do it again. I'd give a stool softner first for a day then the suppository. Never more than one per day.
