Makenna ?

Mckenna ?

I have heard so many times on this board that people hate Mc-names. I also thought that Makenna was the correct spelling. I like it spelled either way, but FI likes Mckenna, so I included both spellings on my poll the other day. I was very surprised to see that Mckenna had more votes then Makenna.

So help me out please, which is the correct spelling ?

Actually, the correct spelling is MacKenna. Just so you know, the "Mac-" prefix in Scottish names means "son of."

I believe McKenzie begat McKenna, which then begat Makenna. So I would say that McKenna is the original spelling.

IMO, Makenna is not better than McKenna just because it isn't spelled with Mc. It's still the same name.

Also, are you aware that Mc means "son of"?

I pronounce it Mah-kenna, and I am leaning more towards spelling it Makenna.

I know kids with both spellings, but I like Makenna better myself.

I personally like Makenna better.  Especially if you want to pronounce it like "Mah-Kenna."

There is also the spelling Makena which is Hawaiian and means "abundance". There is a resort area on Maui called Makena.

This. Makena is a legit Hawaiian name. I've seen it mostly on boys with this spelliing.  

You can always do what my friend did and use Mackenna.

Personally, I don't care for the name. While sometimes my friends daughter gets called Kenna. She mostly goes by Mack. I hate that on girls.

If you use the Mc version I think it should be McKenna, right?  Am I crazy on this??  Both Mckenna and McKenna just look wrong to me... 

ETA: I just read through everyone's responses, so I guess I'm not crazy...  I just really don't like this name, either.

when I say the name - I say it MA - kenna

not MC -kenna

so however you want it to be pronounced. I love Makenna
