When did you go? The hospital discharge papers said to follow up with him when the twins are 6 months old (that would be this month). So I called to make the appointment a few weeks ago, and the receptionist told me the kids aren't supposed to be seen until they are 6 months ADJUSTED, not actual. I questioned her saying they were 27 weekers and haven't had their eyes examined since August, but she was adamant in scheduling them for the end of March. So last week, I had to take Teagan to the pediatrician and mentioned that I made their eye appointments and they will be seen in March. The doctor told me I needed to call back and insist they be seen earlier and that he doesn't understand why they don't want to see them until March. When I called back to reschedule, the receptionist gave me a hard time, saying she remembered when I called 3 weeks ago and that they really shouldn't be seen until March. I said that this is what my pediatrician wants, and she replies, "Well, I hope they aren't going to be see too early." What the heck?! When did your LO have their follow-up? By the way, Tristan had stage 0 ROP throughout his NICU exams and Teagan had stage 1, which corrected itself for the last time she was seen in August. Sorry for the long post!
Re: Follow up with the pediatric optometrist...
My LO was seen a little after her 5 month mark(actual) and every 2 months until she was a yaer and then every 4 months. Our pediatric Optamolagist did not say anything about adjusting age. He said he wants them in the earlier the better so he could track her progress of the first year. He said the adjustments of the first year are the most crucial because the eye health is pretty much what it will be by a year. He was very diligent about tracking her eyes every 2 months after she hit the 6 month mark.
Granted my LO was only 7 weeks early so her adjusted age is not as drastic as yours. But our Docs have always told us to go with our gut. If momma ain't happy with that receptionist go to another Doc.
Our precious girl, born at 27 weeks.
My son had one six months after his final appt in the NICU (when they determined the ROP was gone).
Regardless of what others do, you were just following directions (from your discharge papers AND your pedi). That receptionist was pretty unprofessional, IMO.
