TTC after 35

Post-lap update

So, I had my hysteroscopy and laparoscopy yesterday.  They removed a uterine polyp during the hysteroscopy and I think scraped me out a bit, too.  According to what my RE told my husband (who took notes, bless his heart, because I was still out) the lap was totally fine.  No endo, tubes open, etc.  So I guess that's good news . . . but of course my first thought was "if my anatomy is totally fine, then my eggs must be total crap!"

The anesthesia treated me well -- I wasn't even groggy when it wore off, though it took me a while to be able to pee despite the four glasses of liquid I drank (they make sure you can pee before you leave).  I have shoulder pain from the CO2 gas they pumped into my abdomen during the lap, a bit of a sore throat from the breathing tube, and a little pain at the incision sites if I bend the wrong way too quickly -- but nothing that can't be managed with Tylenol (I haven't even dipped into the Vicodin they prescribed -- I slept fine overnight).  All of the doctors and nurses came and spoke to me before the surgery and everyone was very nice and helpful.  Honestly the worst part of this whole thing was not being able to eat or drink between midnight and my early-afternoon surgery!

So now I'm home recuperating but I think I'm going to be tempted to go back into work by Friday.  I would not be tempted to go in at all if not for the fact that I'm also taking 10 days off over the holidays.  I'd rather my "real" vacation be as low-stress as I can make it.  :-)

Re: Post-lap update

  • Glad to hear it all went well and things were clear. Maybe this is just what  you needed...That shoulder pain is the WORST.  I remember the first time I had surgery a few years ago and no one had warned me about that, I thought I was having a heart attack.  Take your time getting back to work, you don't want to over exert yourself. Even though it's laproscopic, they still did operate on  you and it's still a big deal.

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

  • Glad it went well and there were no problems!   I remember the having to pee to leave part.  I was about 5 minutes away from having to stay another 6 hours because I was having so much trouble. It's really hard to go on demand!

  • I'm glad things went well. Rest up so you can enjoy your real vacation.
  • Thanks for all the nice comments, everyone.  Sorry to do somewhat of a post and run; I was more tired the latter half of the day and slept a lot.

McIrish:  My DH and I are just doing our annual visit to our families (Nebraska and Seattle) but it's a trip we generally enjoy, even if the flying around component gets a little hectic.  :-)

About the hysteroscopy -- I have to say that component of this surgery hasn't been bad at all.  I've had a bit of uterine spasming/cramping but not much soreness.  The gas and incisions from the lap have been worse (though I can't complain much all around).  I wouldn't hesitate to have a hysteroscopy done if that's what your doc recommends -- I think you could do it and be back to work two days later pretty easily.  Also, I think generally they just do an oxygen mask rather than a breathing tube for a hysteroscopy, so you don't have the sore throat aspect to deal with either. I doubt it's much worse than an ER procedure.

Why was the doc recommending a hysteroscopy?  Just to take a look?

Edited:  Left out a word:  NOT much soreness.

  • I'm so glad that it went well for you!  I've been looking for an update from you! I hope you have a very speedy recovery so that you can enjoy the holidays.
