I usually try to walk outside with her (fresh air usually helps) or I start singing "You are my sunshine." I have a horrendous voice and I only know the first verse but it mesmerizes her.

LOL! Ever since DS was a newborn, I always sing "Silent Night" to him and am horrified by my own voice haha but it seems to calm him down, so I haven't stopped yet. (I don't DARE sing it in front of DH or anyone else though! lol!)
Nursing. Or put in the ergo and go for a walk outside. If those aren't practical, like if I'm in the middle of changing him, I'll sing or speak to him in different funny voices- going for distraction more than calming in this case until I am able to do what calms him.

Nursing - I love it because even if it wasn't what she had on her mind, it'll still almost always work. She also LOVES when I make animal noises. That pretty much always gets a smile.
Evan is a really easy going baby but my first wasn't. If Evan gets fussy which is usually around supper time I give him a bath. His mood changes drastically after he has sometime to relax and play in the tub.

Going outside is also an instant calm for us.
I sing "You are my sunshine" to LO every night while I nurse her. I do sing all 3 verses, but the last 2 are so sad. Makes her good and sleepy despite my nails on the chalk board voice.

Re: Methods for calming an extra-fussy baby
My go-to method is throwing him in the Moby or ring sling and vacuuming. Calms him down instantly.
