How do I know if I have a sinus infection?

I had a cold last week and went to urgent care on Sunday (9 days ago).  She said I had an upper respiratory infection but maybe it was viral and would resolve on its own.  She said if I felt worse in 2-3 days to take the antibiotics she prescribed.  So, now I am still holding onto this script.

My cold went away, I think, but today I have sinus pressure again and the tops of my teeth feel very sore.  My face is sore.  I don't have a runny nose.  I used the flonase she prescribed for me but it hasn't helped the pressure.

Does this sound like a sinus infection?  How do I know when to take the antibiotics?

  • The pain in your teeth makes me think it could be a sinus infection. I hope you feel better soon!

  • That's exactly what (the many) sinus infections feel like to me. PAIN is the biggest indicator--especially in your face and teeth.

Take the meds! Don't forget to take probiotics with the antibiotic, as well.

  • Take the antibiotics.  The only way to know for sure is to go to the doc, but it sounds pretty likely to me.  Get better!

  • oh and take mucinex to loosen it up, so you can actually blow something out. it's probably pretty thick.
