I'm dying over here. A and I have been sick since Thanksfvckingiving. She is miserable, as am I. She crys non-stop and has been super clingy.
djkadjkajdkasjd ....oh sorry, my face hit the keyboard after passing out from sheer exhaustion.
Took her to the pedi yesterday and he said that it was a cold coupled with teething. Her nose, ears, and throat all look ok, so basically nothing to give her. Fast forward to today, she is coughing so hard that she is vomiting. H is at home with her, and I told him to call the pedi again for some cough syrup, something, anything to help her.
I run a humidifier at night, elevate her while sleeping, and comfort her as much as I can. Anything else I should be doing, any wisdom? Anybody? Help?
*insane laughs at lack of sleep then coughs until passes out*
Re: A legit question...
I am so sorry
That sounds awful.
Unfortunately, there isn't much they can do for her at this age. If she's coughing that badly, I'd maybe see if they can get her a chest x-ray, but even still...it's probably just a cold if she doesn't have a fever. And a chest x-ray is really not a fun experience for anyone.
I hope you all start feeling better soon.
ETA: Run the hot shower, and sit and play in the bathroom. Works really well for my kids. Also, Vicks on the feet. I know it sounds crazy, but I swear it works.
I forgot to mention, no fever and I've also done the hot shower thing.
Thanks for the Vicks suggestion, the pedi cringed when I mentioned Vicks, however at this point I'll try anything.
Cough syrup isn't recommended until 6years and older- they can cause respiratory depression. After a year, you can give a little honey, but not now.
Have you tried steaming her? Take a hot shower and sit her in her high chair in the bathroom with some toys, etc.
If she's coughing that bad, I would take her to the doctor- they may want to give her a nebulizer treatment if her lungs sound bad.
Thanks ladies!
Now back to the reading the CIO war.
I'm sorry. I had to laugh when I read your post, because we're in the EXACT SAME BOAT! I told my husband if they said it was "just a cold and teething" one more time that I swear I'd have to punch the doctor. My LO has been battling the same things for over 2 months. His voice is hoarse, he coughs all night, he gags and gasps for air. His nose is stuffy and then he'll sneeze out giant awful snot.
Humidifier, saline/suction, elevate the head of the bed, baby vix on his chest, steam baths, blah blah blah blah blah... none of it actually works.
Hang in there momma! It's gotta end eventually...
Hannah has had a cough and congestion NON STOP for months & I, like you, have been told there's basically nothing we could do up until this point. We even tried breathing treatments with no success.
The pedi did say if it kept up we could (very sparingly) give her a little benadryl to help with the cough if it was keeping her bad. I didn't get the dose but she said call if we need it. You may want to ask if you could try a little benadryl when it's really bad.
I have no new advice, just wanted to commiserate. LO has had a cough and runny nose for two months and I think she gave it to me. I am so sick of coughing and hearing her cough! Good luck! "It's just a phase", right?
Sorry to hear that you and your little one are so sick... I wanted to mention that my friend and her LO (1year old) were also sick for quite some time. The LO was coughing for over a month and the Pediatrician told her that it just had to run its course and she would be fine. My friend felt there was something more to it so she took her to a Pediatric ENT and the LO had adnoiditis and was put on a stronger med...within a day her cough was getting better.
Not sure if this is the case with your LO, but I thought it was worth mentioning it...Feel better
