DD refuses to eat more than 2 or 3 oz per feed during the day. She's on nutramigen (since she was 6 wks old due to reflux & possible milk soy protein intolerance). She now consistently wakes up during the night starving (I can actually hear her stomach growling) and will eat anywhere from 6-8 oz at that time (when she's half asleep) and fall right back asleep...but during the day, it's a struggle to get her to take 3 oz. She just won't drink it. Turns her head, sits up, etc. I worry constantly that she isn't eating enough. I've tried talking to pedi about this - he increased her reflux meds, but she still won't eat during the day. He said she's not losing weight, so not to worry, but I still do.
She's had a total of 16 oz of formula today. ![]()
This has been going on for a couple of months now. She used to STTN, but has been waking consistently for the past couple of months to eat.
Any suggestions on how to get her to eat more during the day? Do I try switching back to regular formula? Continue feeding her large bottles during the night? Or just accept that she's a finicky eater?
Re: Refusing bottles during the day
I find that P gets distracted easily lately with his bottles. At night, or if it's just us during the day he's ok. If we have company or he has a toy in his line of sight or he hears the TV or something, he tries to get up and go play. I think now that he's crawling and more active he just doesn't want to sit and eat. He has no problem at all if he's tired or bored, though. Like today, he has his breakfast (6oz plus solids) and then didn't eat more than 2-3 oz of a bottle until dinner time. I hate it. I tried decreasing his solids, thinking he had too much but it didn't help. I'm working on his sippy cup transition so he can feed himself as he plays if that's what it will take. Until then, he gets at least half of his calories between 7pm-7am
