Mirena Questions (maybe some TMI)

I had mirena put in on the 17th of November.

I've now been on my period for nearly 2 weeks, except now it's more like light brown, really light spotting. (sorry if that's TMI) I've had bad cramps ever since I had it put in and they've been horribly painful since I started my period.

Is this all normal? Should I call the doctor?

Bleeding and spotting are normal for a while. As long as it isn't really heavy bleeding. I know someone who bled for 3 months on and off after having it placed but then never had a period again until she had it taken out. This is my second Mirena, with my first I cramped horribly the first two days of my period. I am breastfeeding so I haven't had a "real" period yet, just spotting.

If it would make you feel better for reassurance or because it just doesn't feel right, I would call my dr. That is what they are there for.  HTH GL

Totally normal and your Dr should have informed you of this. I had mine put in in August and spotted for almost 4 months.

This is normal. Like PP said I am surprised your doctor didn't mention it. Some women bleed for 6 months or more. My bleeding lasted a month and haven't had anything since. Maybe yours will subside in a few days.

My doctor did say that my periods could be abnormal but I was NOT expecting 2 weeks of nonstop bleeding!

I had mine in Oct 18th and I am STILL bleeding like a heavy period. It stopped for 1 week prior to my period in Nov and then came back. I am about to lose it, esp since my OB never called me back about it. I am so tired of bleeding.

agree, normal.. My periods got weird for 3 months then went away until I had it taken out 3 years later? LOVE the Mirena!!!

I place Mirenas' everyday....Bleeding and spotting for 3-6 months is the normal expected response.
