Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

HCg levels dropped but then rose again?! So confused.

Has anyone ever heard of this? The ER doctor I went and saw today wanted to give me the abortion pill and said I was having a "missed miscarriage" It just doesn't make any sense for my levels to go from 7000+ to 6000+ and then rise again to 7000+.

Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Could you have lost a twin?

  • I have no idea, I have read that somewhere. I guess I wouldn't know if I was pregnant with twins because I'm not very far along.

I just hate how the doctors are so negative.

  • With my missed mc my levels continued to rise well after baby was gone. Since the sac continued to grow the output of hormones continued as well. That is basically what a missed mc is. Your body totally doesn't pick up that the baby has stopped growing and acts as if it is still pregnant.

I was 15wks and my levels were spot on but baby only measured at 9w. Always of course make sure to get a second opinion if you are not comfortable.

  • Well the ER doctor gave me pills to "abort" the missed miscarriage but I'm just so scared to take them because I still have faith and I want to get another ultrasound so they can confirm that nothing is in the sack or that the baby stopped growing.

I just can't bring myself to do it. :( I have another appointment on Thursday so hopefully they will do an ultrasound and give me some GOOD news. Everything has been BAD news.

  • Did the ER Doctor give you a vaginal ultrasound? If not, then do not take the pill - the only truly varifiable diagnosis is u/s, and at 7w it needs to be vaginal. If he/she did, then I think it's safe to say that it was a m/c, but there's absolutely no harm in waiting for a 2nd opinion, but just work on emotionally preparing yourself. You'll either m/c naturally or proceed as prescribed a few days later. Best of luck to you!

  • No! They did not do a vaginal ultrasound at the ER and I was kinda upset because the dr was so eager to just give me the medication. I'm definately going to wait for my original 8 week appt on Thursday.

I was hoping that some ladies have experienced a drop and then raise in Hcg levels and still continue their pregnancy!

This is a loss board, we don't have successful stories. 1st tri might be a better place for you to ask this.

  • My numbers did do that but they weren't rising properly to begin with... Have yours been rising properly up to this point? They wound up worrying abt an ectopic or blighted ovum with me so I'm now doing methotrexate shots - but I did have a transvaginal u/s and they did see a sac but no embryo I'd def wait and have that done first ...
