Re: "Crying It Out"

  • Huh?

    Oh for pete's sake.

Everyone needs to get down off of their high horses and stop ridiculing others for parenting their children in the manner in which they choose.

    Honestly, this is absolutely ridiculous.

  • I completely agree with the article.

Okay, I didn't realize there were a million posts about this.  Stepping back...

  • Sigh. Here's the thing. Most if not all of the studies about infant trust, independence and bonding were done comparing infants who were severely neglected, not babies who went through three days of sleep training (where the parent DOES respond and checks on the baby at intervals.) I think it's a giant leap to say all crying is bad based on the available evidence. As I posted below, I also think it points to misconceptions about how sleep training works, and how much crying is actually involved.

Your sanctimommy tone is pretty funny though.

  • For the love of money... people, get over it! You don't let your LO cry it out? Great for you!! You'll have a good kid that trusts you, but lots of kids who cried it out are also good, it's NOT the end of the world, I promise.

(I don't do CIO b/c LO sleeps like a champ, just get so tired of hearing the high horse moms)

  • Very true.  We did Ferber a couple weeks ago, and ever since my child has been a shell of his former self, who trusts no one and cannot be comforted or communicated with.

Orrr actually that's complete bullshit.  We did do Ferber a couple weeks ago, and my kid has been just as trusting as ever and much more happy, due in large part to his finally getting a decent amount of sleep at night.  I'm very glad for those of you who don't have sleep issues or are steadfast enough not to CIO, but for some of us it really is the best solution for all involved, including the baby.
