Seriously....the three times I have been there, I get the narcissistic (sp?) sales clerks that can't shut up. It's a huge turn off from me even wanting to shop there and I always feel like they are pushing items on me to buy. Today the clerk felt it was necessary to tell me about the frequent phone calls she gets requesting the store to donate clothes to mothers in need and how she finds it annoying that they keep calling. Why is this my business? I had to literally close the dressing room door in her face and she kept talking! I am 38 weeks and had been on my feet for 3 hours finishing up my shopping before baby. And just what makes her think I care about her upcoming date night with her husband or how she and the guy cleaning carpets in the store that morning were joking about um....cleaning carpets? This is my second experience with this girl in that particular store. I feel tempted to let management know just how annoying it is.....not to mention unprofessional. From what I gather about her personal life (and I didn't dare ask questions for fear I would be there even longer) she doesn't have kids so the poor thing may not even know what it's like to just wanna buy your nursing tanks and get the heck out of there.
Re: Do all the weirdos work at Motherhood?
LOL. Everytime I go in to the Motherhood near me, the sales associate is talking on the phone and doesn't even look up to say hello!
I would call and just let them know that some of her topics of conversation are unprofessional and you would rather not hear about her personal life.
lol I used to work for Motherhood. One of the hardest jobs EVER, and I gave it up to make a dollar less an hour because I couldn't handle the stress or environment. They HAVE to push.
They have managers on the floor telling them what they need to sell, and then the ladies have the district calling every 2 hours checking to see what they've sold and how many credit cards they've had people sign up for, etc. Oh!! And those credit cards!! THOSE had massive quotas.
Didn't get someone's personal information? HUGE DEAL.
We'd cringe when we saw someone walk in for $10 panties because it'd throw off our numbers (which I of course felt bad for...we'd do the "not it!" for ringing them up because we didn't want it to blow our numbers). We had quotas per sale... Over $X amount and over Y amount of items. They monitor this, and if you're not doing well, you're told you're not doing well enough and threatened job wise. They had charts and files of everything.
They'd have sit downs with you, district management would get involved... it's insane what they put you through. We'd have daily conference calls, we'd have a steady stream of "to do's" coming in... it's really just crazy.
You're right, none of us were mom's either... I actually REALLY liked learning from the moms... I'd never be talking about carpet cleaning with a customer (WTF?) and I read all the baby books. I'm a personable person though... I loved hearing the mom's stories, the "how I told my hubby", the happy "look, my bump is showing!!" etc.
If someone was unprofessional, by all means... file a complaint (I wish someone had done it with a few of my coworkers!). And some people don't have the finesse to hide the sales pressure they're under (we were supposed to be sneaky... You want to try on just a pair of pants, we find 3 tops that match it and stick it in your fitting room without asking).
But also know that it is by far one of the worst jobs ever.
BTW: You REALLY want to screw with their numbers? Just buy a sample lotion. Throws them off for the week.
I've had a crappy time there once, but the other handful of time's Ive gone were amazing.
I purchased a bathing suit there last year when I was 25 weeks along and the sales women (whom was actually prengnat too) was so sweet and I liked her alot. She was also there a bunch of other times I went in just to get some warm winter clothes since I had DS in feb.
I also had another clerk help me get the correct nursing bras (this was like 4 days after I delivered too so I was sore/tired and shouldn't have been in the mall in the first place but I desperately needed different bras because my boobs got SOOOOOO huge they didn't fit the bras I had already purchased for breastfeeding lol
One time I went in there and the girl left me alone.. but I actually needed help! It was super annoying she wouldn't get off the phone.
They do try to get you to buy stuff though, and I always just assume they "have" to do it and never let it get to me. I just politely say no thanks.
